Product Description

Product Description – Wire Rope Marking Tape

1. Product Overview

This Wire Rope Marking Tape is manufactured from stretch-oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film or polyolefin film, carrying highly abrasion-resistant printed information on its surface. The tape is wound around a support element in spirally overlapping manner and worked into the gap between bundles of strands at the same twisting angle as the strands. It can be printed with manufacturer name, product specification, manufacturing date, batch number, and service life, meeting the marking requirements of ISO 2408:2017 for steel wire ropes.

The product offers excellent resistance to abrasion, grease, chemicals, and high temperatures. It maintains legible identification under normal operating temperatures (approximately 100°C) and extreme conditions up to 200°C–300°C. It is suitable for permanent identification needs of round strand ropes, compacted strand ropes, and various industrial ropes.

2. Applications

  • Product identification for wire rope manufacturers (specification, batch, production date)

  • Safety marking for wire ropes in cranes, elevators, and ropeways

  • Traceability management for industrial ropes in oil drilling, mining, and ports

  • Anti-counterfeiting identification and brand recognition for wire ropes

  • Marking for woven bags, cables, and other rope-like articles

  • Marking for safety ropes, traction ropes, and various other ropes

4. International Standard Notes

4.1 ISO 2408:2017 – Steel Wire Ropes — Requirements

This standard specifies requirements for the manufacture, testing, acceptance, packing, marking, and issuing of a certificate of quality for wire ropes. It is applicable to round strand ropes and compacted strand ropes made from uncoated (bright), zinc-coated, or Zn-Al coated wires. According to this standard, wire ropes must be marked with the manufacturer's name, product name, specification, manufacturing date, and service life. This product, as a carrier for wire rope identification, meets the marking content requirements of this standard.

4.2 ISO 527-3:2018 – Tensile Properties of Plastic Films

This standard specifies the conditions for determining the tensile properties of plastic films or sheets less than 1 mm thick. Tensile strength and elongation at break of both the base film and the finished tape are tested according to this standard.

4.3 ASTM D882 – Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting

This standard covers the determination of tensile properties of plastics in the form of thin sheeting and films (less than 1.0 mm in thickness) and is technically similar to ISO 527-3. Testing according to this standard is available upon request.

4.4 ISO 29862:2024 – Peel Adhesion of Pressure-Sensitive Tapes

This standard specifies methods for measuring the peel adhesion of self-adhesive tapes. Method 1 measures peel adhesion at 180° from a stainless steel surface. The peel adhesion of this product is tested according to Method 1.

4.5 ISO 29863:2018 – Static Shear Adhesion of Pressure-Sensitive Tapes

This standard specifies methods for determining the ability of a pressure-sensitive tape to remain adhered under a constant load applied parallel to the surfaces of the tape and substrate. This product is tested according to Method A.

4.6 ISO 4593:1993 – Thickness of Plastic Film and Sheeting

This standard specifies a method for determining the thickness of a sample of plastics film or sheeting by mechanical scanning. It is not suitable for use with embossed film or sheeting. Because the marking tape surface carries a printed layer, ISO 4593 applies only to the unprinted base film. Finished total thickness requires alternative methods such as cross-section microscopy.

5. Quality Assurance

This product is manufactured and inspected under an ISO 9001 quality management system. Each batch undergoes tensile strength, abrasion resistance, peel adhesion, temperature resistance, and visual inspection to ensure batch-to-batch consistency.

Free samples, technical data sheets, and third-party test reports are available upon request.

6. Packaging, Storage, and Transport

  • Each roll is individually wrapped for moisture and dust protection.

  • Storage conditions: 15–30°C, 40%–70% RH, away from direct sunlight.

  • Shelf life: Long-term storage under unopened, properly stored conditions.

7. Transport Packaging Test Reference

As an accessory identification material for wire ropes, the overall transport reliability of this marking tape can be evaluated using the ISTA 3A test procedure. ISTA 3A is a comprehensive transport test protocol developed by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) for individual packaged-products, applicable to parcels weighing up to 70 kg with a longest dimension not exceeding 150 cm. It covers temperature and humidity conditioning, random vibration, shock, and drop tests.
